THE ART OF CHOOSING -

THE ART OF CHOOSING -
By Bernard Bujold -
The art of aging is also the art of choosing! When I was younger, I was up for everything, but in the end 90% of my choices ended up being a waste of time and led nowhere. Shows, meetings, trips, projects, etc. Today, as an old man, I accept only 10% of the requests I receive and all (or almost all) of my life choices end in personal satisfaction.
I call this concept the 10%...

LIBERAL PARTY OF QUEBEC...

LIBERAL PARTY OF QUEBEC...
By Bernard Bujold -
The leaders of the Quebec Liberal Party are launching a campaign to revive the party, including a consultation tour throughout Quebec.
If there is a significant element in this announcement, it is the presence of former Senator André Pratte. The current interim leader of the party does not hold up at all and if Dominique Anglade was not attractive to voters, the interim leader Marc Tanguay is even less so...
François Legault is obviously solidly in place and still very energetic, but a character like Pratte could be a game changer.
Note that Legault (May 26, 1957) and Pratte (May 12, 1957) are the same age!

GILLES PROULX'S STAIRCASE -

GILLES PROULX'S STAIRCASE -
By Bernard Bujold -
The first time I heard of Gilles Proulx was in 1994 when he was on CKAC and at the end of his interviews he would simulate the sound of someone being pushed down a flight of stairs. Proulx would yell in the background: "...send my sucker out..." and you would hear the sound of someone being pushed down the stairs, as if Proulx was pushing his guest out the back door of the radio station...
I met Proulx a dozen times at events that my friend Ben Weider (1923-2008) was organizing because Proulx was also a friend of Weider. Proulx and Weider shared the same passion for Napoleon.
Proulx is a man of great culture but he is above all an actor. He created a character for himself as a gruff old man, a sort of tavern brawler, but he is never like that in reality.
Gilles Proulx will be 83 years old on April 5th. At that age, you can't expect him to put his character away... That's what keeps him young!

PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE...

PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE...
By Bernard Bujold -
The invention of photography in 1839 was inspired by drawing (painting on canvas). The first camera was in fact a machine to capture light which is composed of photons (particles), but which has the properties of a wave.
We can say that in 2023, the machine has become complex, especially with artificial intelligence, but the inspiration of drawing has returned to the forefront.
Time is a wheel that turns and returns to the starting point and photography has become an art again!

THE BEACH IN SPRING OF 2023 -

THE BEACH IN SPRING 2023 -
By Bernard Bujold -
The faithful Ulysse does not back down from any obstacle and despite the spring snow on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, which fell on Quebec, he found a way to bring the beach and the sea into the kitchen...
Indeed, he discovered that with a computer, ipad, iphone or a Google Home, one can obtain perpetual music of the sound of the waves! Then just close your eyes and dream of the sunny beach...
Happy spring 2023!

THE RICH MAN WHO HELPED THE POOR-

THE RICH MAN WHO HELPED THE POOR-
By Bernard Bujold -
History is a wheel that turns and we often return to the starting point. We can make a connection between the recent fire in Old Montreal and the character Scrooge by Charles Dickens in 1843; or that of Séraphin by Claude-Henri Grignon in Un Homme et son Péché (Les Belles Histoires des pays d'en haut) in 1933.
In 2023, he is a real estate owner who is the modern version of a rich man who takes advantage of poor people to get even richer.
The people who chose to stay in the burned down building in Old Montreal did so because they could not afford more and because it was cheap. For example, the young academic from California who had come to Montreal for a conference on neuroscience that was taking place at the chic Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. She wanted to extend her stay in Montreal for a day, presumably at a lower cost than her room at the Queen Elizabeth, by using Airbnb...
History repeats itself, and even in a modern and technological age like 2023, some rich people still like to help poor people and, if possible, take the opportunity to get richer...

JOE BIDEN'S VISIT TO CANADA

JOE BIDEN'S VISIT CANADA-
By Bernard Bujold -
As the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, will be on an official visit to Ottawa this Thursday and Friday, March 23 and 24, 2023, we can assume that China will be strongly on the agenda...
Indeed, China's new role in world politics is of great concern to Western countries like Canada and the United States.
This subject also directly concerns the two political leaders, Biden and Trudeau. On the one hand, here in Canada, Justin Trudeau and his party are accused by the opposition parties of having let China get involved in the last Canadian elections; while on the other hand, the American president is very tormented because of his son Hunter's financial relations with China.

AN IMPORTANT WEEK FOR THE WORLD...

AN IMPORTANT WEEK FOR THE WORLD...
By Bernard Bujold -
The week of March 20 will be significant for the world and eventful!
First of all, on Monday, there will be a three-days meeting between Vladimir Putin and the President of China, Xi Jinping, who wants to become the world leader ahead of the United States, especially in terms of the role in the war in Ukraine.
Tuesday will be another important day, precisely for the United States, as it is rumored that Donald Trump, candidate for the presidential election of 2024, will be arrested by the authorities for an alleged sex scandal with an erotic actress. Half of the total U.S. population (total 331,9 million) support the candidate, making Trump an unavoidable symbol for the United States. Many political observers predict that an arrest would greatly enhance Trump's momentum and victory in his presidential campaign.
Finally, at the local level in Quebec, Tuesday will also be the day of the provincial budget of François Legault's government.

THE POINTE-À-CALLIÈRE MUSEUM FIRE -

THE POINTE-À-CALLIÈRE MUSEUM FIRE -
By Bernard Bujold -
The Pointe-à-Callière Museum was saved from the flames... Indeed, a fire ravaged the neighbouring building for several hours. The fire was declared around 5:40 a.m. on Thursday morning (March 16, 2023) and a total of 120 firefighters were on site. The smoke was very dense and affected the entire neighborhood. About ten people were transported to the hospital.
The good news: Pointe-à-Callière survived!
