GILLES PROULX'S STAIRCASE -
By Bernard Bujold -
The first time I heard of Gilles Proulx was in 1994 when he was on CKAC and at the end of his interviews he would simulate the sound of someone being pushed down a flight of stairs. Proulx would yell in the background: "...send my sucker out..." and you would hear the sound of someone being pushed down the stairs, as if Proulx was pushing his guest out the back door of the radio station...
I met Proulx a dozen times at events that my friend Ben Weider (1923-2008) was organizing because Proulx was also a friend of Weider. Proulx and Weider shared the same passion for Napoleon.
Proulx is a man of great culture but he is above all an actor. He created a character for himself as a gruff old man, a sort of tavern brawler, but he is never like that in reality.
Gilles Proulx will be 83 years old on April 5th. At that age, you can't expect him to put his character away... That's what keeps him young!
