THE PASSAGE OF TIME AND THE STATUES...

THE PASSAGE OF TIME AND THE STATUES...
By Bernard Bujold -
Reading an article about Victor-Levy Beaulieu, who will celebrate his 75th birthday on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, I wondered what will we remember about him in 25 years? Even a bronze statue doesn't guarantee eternity because it can be melted down and forgotten...
The passage of time prevents any form of eternity!
While Victor-Levy clings to another book; homeless campers cling to their plot of land near a bicycle path; while other people go out for a hamburger on St-Paul Street in Old Montreal with the inviting photo of the good doctor Horacio Arruda at the entrance of the restaurant...
But in any case, the passage of time will make us forget!
Let's enjoy the present moment while it passes, because it's the only reality!

MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS - QUEBEC GOVERNMENT MEETS WITH BOARD OF DIRECTORS

THE MUSÉE DES BEAUX ARTS DE MONTRÉAL AND THE PRESIDENT MICHEL DE LA CHENELIÈRE -
By Bernard Bujold -
The Government of Quebec is meeting this Thursday, August 27, 2020 with Michel de la Chenelière, President of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
After launching an independent inquiry into the situation at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) following the dismissal of its Executive Director Nathalie Bondil, the Government of Quebec now wishes to recover its $10 million grant allocated to the museum to build a Riopelle wing by 2023. Members of the Board of Directors, including Michel de la Chenelière, are scheduled to travel to Quebec City on Thursday to discuss the situation. The question: Will his resignation be demanded?
In my opinion, the Government should include Michel Nadeau on the Board and the new Board of Directors that will be elected at the Annual Meeting on September 29th should appoint Nadeau as the new President. Michel Nadeau is one of the few people in Quebec capable of repairing the current situation that the MBAM is experiencing.

DONALD J. TRUMP AND THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION 2020 - DAY 1

DONALD J. TRUMP AND THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION 2020
By Bernard Bujold -
The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, is totally in the race for the November 3 vote and his energy is like the one of a sports champion.
Participants in the Republican Convention 2020 will see him daily and repeatedly during this week of the Republican Rally, from Monday, August 24 to Thursday, August 27.
Several analyses by the pro-democrat media are true on one point: Joe Biden proposes a united America, but his proposal does not take into account the very deep polarization of the population of the United States. There are two visions of life in our southern neighbors: the right and the concept of freedom of choice for the individual; and the left with the concept of a common society. Joe Biden's speech at the Democratic Convention was more like a religious sermon calling for friendship and coming together in one vision of society. The history of Americans, however, has always been a history of polarization, and Biden's speech will not change that division.
In Canada, Biden's speech could have changed the electoral race as Justin Trudeau did in his October 2015 victory over Stephen Harper, a Canadian Prime Minister who resembled President Donald Trump in his political vision. At the time of Harper's defeat, Justin Trudeau's speech was very similar to that of Biden. But Justin would never have defeated Harper if Canada had been a country with the polarization of the United States.
To comment on the conclusion of many left-wing journalists, for every one hundred people who despise Donald Trump, there is his equivalent of a hundred others who admire him deeply. Donald Trump admits that his style may disturb some people, but it is his fighting spirit that allows him to achieve and accomplish success for the American people.
If I had one prediction for the November 3 vote, it would be that Donald Trump will be re-elected, and by more than 300 votes, because Trump is a leader who has a special characteristic that is also that of a sports champion: he increases his efforts to win proportionally to the obstacles and efforts of his opponent. The tighter the fight, the more Donald will increase his efforts because he is a fighter.

JOE BIDEN - THE PREACHER

THE DEMOCRAT CONVENTION - JOE BIDEN THE PREACHER
Joe Biden's ideas are dreams to say the least...
« Love and unity among all. »
His speech was more of a church sermon than a political plan.
In the today polarized world of the United States, a President role must be one of a top manager and not of a preacher!
The core theme of the Democrat convention was focused on the need to stop Trump from serving a second term.
The unstated objective of the convention: do no harm at a time when Biden is slightly leading Trump in opinion polls.

THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS and THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL

THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS and THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL
By Bernard Bujold
An excellent analysis of the current situation at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is published in Le Devoir (Thursday, August 13, 2020) and signed by Odile Tremblay. However, Odile should have added to her text that this sad war resembles in many ways another war that we are both familiar with, that of the Montreal World Film Festival and Serge Losique.
The two institutions have their differences, but the inspiration and global reach of Serge Losique and Nathalie Bondil, in their respective fields, meant that the success of their institutions was directly related to their person and their leadership.
We are all aware of the long agony and death of the World Film Festival, and while the future of the museum is still being questioned, we should not be under any illusions: "No institution exists without a leader, and the success of any organization is the extension of the leader".
We'll have to see what happens next, but I'm very worried.
Obviously, death does not come immediately and "sickly" survival can last several years, but the agony of an institution always begins with the departure of an inspiring leader.
Hopefully the director of the Museum, Nathalie Bondil, will resurrect, wishes for those who believe in the concept of resurrection?

KAMALA HARRIS AND MONTREAL - CANADA

KAMALA HARRIS
By Bernard Bujold
Joe Biden finally decided on Kamala Harris for his co-runner on next November 3, 2020. Harris lived in Montreal Westmount from 1977 until 1981. Kamala Harris’s entry in the 1981 Montreal Westmount High yearbook has little to suggest Harris would reach such heights in U.S. politics. She seemed more preoccupied with a fast return to California and “dancing with Super Six,” Her mother had moved to Montreal when Kamala Harris was 12 years old (1977) and in her memoir she seemed very ambivalent at best about moving north. She sort of hated it as she does not like snow, neither understand French... “The thought of moving away from sunny California in February, in the middle of the school year, to a French-speaking foreign city covered in 12 feet of snow was distressing, to say the least,” she wrote in her recent book. “My mother tried to make it sound like an adventure, taking us to buy our first down jackets and mittens, as though we were going to be explorers of the great northern winter. But it was hard for me to see it that way.” Kamala returned to California immediatEly after her high school graduation in 1981 (16 years old), and she long ago lost touch with most or all of her Westmount acquaintances. Donald Trump is very happy with Biden choice as it will make his Presidential race easier to win!
