THE PASSING OF TIME...

I read with nostalgia the interview with Brian Mulroney that has just been published in POLICY- Canadian Politics and Public Policy magazine by editor L. Ian Macdonald. 

In short, according to Brian Mulroney, in politics as in life, everything needs the passage of time to be understood and appreciated... His philosophy, borrowed from Paul Desmarais Sr. : 

"Let the garden grow... " 

I was with Brian in 1984 in Ottawa. At that time, he and his young team wanted to change the world (Canada). We didn't really change the world, but we did improve some corners of the garden... 

Brian also comments in the interview on the current Canadian political situation in 2021, and the relationship with the United States, but in a non-partisan way.

Ulysses wanted to run up the steps of the legendary Saint Joseph's Oratory, but he had to settle for a walk around the building... 

The steps of the Oratory gave way to construction scaffolding and one would have thought one was on another planet, so mysterious and unrecognizable was the place, not to mention disturbing. 

If the events in Afghanistan are deeply sad, many others in the rest of the world, including some in Quebec, are also very sad... 

The 2020-2021 era will be memorable and historic for its societal losses! 

This might be a good time for a little prayer to Saint Brother André...

ELECTION CANADA 2021-

Justin Trudeau is the target of demonstrations, particularly regarding vaccination, and Trudeau says he is surprised by so much hatred towards him. He even declared that he had never experienced such a situation since his beginnings in politics, including the time of his father... 

On the other hand, Erin O'Toole has the wind in her sails! All the journalists, from the left and the right, recognize his momentum; Jean Chrétien criticizes Justin Trudeau's behavior and worries about a defeat; while François Legault publicly supports the Conservatives' program. 

The winner will be known on September 20!

ELECTION CANADA 2021 - WHAT IF IT WAS A MAJORITY GOVERNMENT?

What if Erin O'Toole were elected as a majority leader? 

He would need to win 170 of the 338 MP seats. This would mean an increase of 51 MPs (from 119) and a loss for Justin Trudeau that would bring him down to about 100 (from 155). 

The equation is becoming more and more possible.  (as of August 25, 2021)

A Facebook friend of mine was saying how sad he is about immigrants who arrive in this country and have to start their lives over. 

The problem is to want, or have to leave your country... 

For example, my life was paradise until the day I wanted to leave my Gaspé Peninsula and I still regret it today, but once the ship has left the port, there is no turning back... 

Leaving is always, of course, a risk that can lead us to discover a new paradise. As Shakespeare wrote: " "There is a wave on the ocean of life, which if caught at the right moment on shore will lead the ship to new lands full of hope and promise; but if the wave is missed then it will be failure and misery... Erin O'Toole received a gift from the debate organizers who did not invite Maxime Bernier. 

The former Conservative Party leadership candidate would have been a difficult obstacle for O'Toole during the debates. 

The Conservative horse is still ahead in the September 20 horse race against Justin Trudeau.

An election is a horse race... Nothing is acquired for the favorites and everything is played between the start at the gates and the last lap of the race! 

Let's take the example of Gilles Duceppe, on May 2, 2011, who was convinced that he would easily win Quebec, but Jack Layton with his cane swept everything in the end. 

I am not a fan of Erin O'Toole, but as an observer, I bet on him... 

From the start, he has held the run well and Justin Trudeau has not been able to get out of the pack. The question: like in horse racing, will O'Toole catch Trudeau before the finish line to pass him, and if so, by how much. 

Nova Scotia is the best example of a horse race. 

The thing to watch for is movement, just like with horses. To date, Justin is not gaining momentum while O'Toole is nervously pushing forward each day of the campaign, ready to race to the final finish. 

The ultimate question: "Which horse are you betting on in the September 20, 2021 race?

According to Donald Trump, the United States and Joe Biden are responsable for the actual crisis and it wont be easy to solve.

Pascale Nadeau, the daughter of legendary journalist Pierre Nadeau, was the best of Radio-Canada! Now we learn that her departure from Radio-Canada television is the result of an anonymous complaint by someone in the Radio-Canada newsroom... 

The whole file is published this Wednesday (August 18, 2021) in La Presse and Le Soleil, including the letter of explanation that Pascale Nadeau signs. 

The 2021 era will have been the "YEAR OF DEATH" of our society, coronavirus in addition... 

A very sad time!

Indeed, the Liberal Party in Nova Scotia and their pandemic electoral campaign got surprisingly rejected by voters and the Conservative got a majority new government.

ETERNAL LIFE IN 2021-

A legend says that there is a fountain of youth whose water would ensure eternal life... 

Whether they bring eternal life or not, all fountains were welcome these last few days as we experienced in Canada and Quebec a unique period of sunshine and heat since the beginning of August. 

Personally, I have always enjoyed watching and especially listening to the sound of water from fountains. My favorite fountain is the one at the Manor and, even if it does not guarantee eternal life, this fountain brings me a form of happiness and peace to my soul. 

As for eternal life, it is a concept and I would say that the most favored in his quest for an endless life would be Ulysse because bronze is qualified as eternal in time. This metal, bronze, has no known corruption, and it would last as long as our planet earth will last. This is why bronze is considered the best friend of sculptors whose works can, thanks to this alloy, last through time. 

Have a good life and a good summer 2021!
