HALLOWEEN 2021

HALLOWEEN 2021 -
By Bernard Bujold -
The faithful Ulysses thought he was dreaming when he saw his idol in front of him. He finally realized that Sunday, October 31st is Halloween... Ulysses offered some pumpkins to his visitor and he was quick to mention how much he admired him and then came to tell me so that I could come and also greet him.
Happy Halloween 2021 to all!

DENIS CODERRE OR VALÉRIE PLANTE

DENIS CODERRE OR VALÉRIE PLANTE-
By Bernard Bujold-
Who will you vote for on Sunday, November 7?
Denis Coderre or Valérie Plante?
It is fashionable among artists to encourage people to vote for one candidate. Personally, I am not an artist, but I have the soul of a stage manager...
There are only two candidates who can mathematically become mayor.
On November 7, I will not vote for Valérie Plante. She may be a good woman, but she admires Joe Biden...
Voting for Denis Coderre is my only other option, otherwise my vote will be an empty gesture in the water, and I hate empty gestures!
The important thing is to vote!
Good luck!

JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S NEW GOVERNMENT (part 2)

JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S NEW GOVERNMENT -
By Bernard Bujold -
I did not vote for Justin Trudeau! I was therefore very disappointed with his election and I am just as disappointed with his new ministerial cabinet.
As former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said: "Justin wants to play politics differently, without relying on the elders." It is his choice, but in running a government it is always useful to draw on experience.
What are my options? In English, there is this expression that I like: "It is over your head" (it's beyond my means.) I'm going to wait for the next election, theoretically in 2025, just as I'm waiting for the next American election in 2024.
Besides, in my mind, Justin Trudeau reminds me of Joe Biden...
In life, you have to accept situations that you cannot change and wait for the storm to pass!

JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S NEW GOVERNMENT (Part 1)

JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S NEW GOVERNMENT -
By Bernard Bujold-
Jean Chrétien was premonitory when he said that Justin Trudeau did not like to surround himself with veterans. One of his star ministers, Marc Garneau, has been removed from the new cabinet. To add insult to injury, he was replaced at External Affairs by a young MP, Melanie Jolie...
Aging is a shipwreck, even for an astronaut!

JEAN CHRÉTIEN THE POLITICIAN

JEAN CHRÉTIEN THE POLITICIAN -
By Bernard Bujold -
Jean Chrétien is a politician of my time, a great politician in the sense of political art. I knew Chrétien well in Ottawa in 1984. He was then in opposition to Brian Mulroney and I often ran into him on Parliament Hill.
Jean Chrétien has always been a fighter who was never afraid of his ideas, even physically pushing a demonstrator to the ground, as he did in Gatineau in 1996. He even made this gesture a sort of joke and his trademark...
One would think that Chrétien's statement on Tout le Monde en parle about the Indians would have destroyed the promotional campaign for his new book, but that's not knowing Jean Chrétien well... SEE TEXT LE DEVOIR

THE WORLD IS DIVIDED...

LONELINESS AT THE MANOR...
By Bernard Bujold -
The least we can say is that the world is at odds...
Half of the world doesn't like the other half because the planet is so polarized. Here in Canada, the majority of Canadians don't like their Prime Minister and closer to home, at the next mayor's office in Montreal, the citizens are equally divided between Denis Coderre and Valérie Plante.
I thought I would find harmony in my residence, but now the bickering is between the members of the board of directors divided in two, so divided that at the annual meeting, it was impossible to elect a new board. It will take a second meeting...
I miss the good old days when neighbors greeted each other and some shared either an apple pie or fresh cookies...
The 2021 era is a long way from cookies or apples....

DONALD TRUMP AND HIS POPULARITY IN QUEBEC -

DONALD TRUMP AND HIS POPULARITY IN QUEBEC -
By Bernard Bujold -
Two Quebec authors have just published a book with the objective of explaining the popularity of Donald Trump in Quebec!
(La Maison Blanche vue du Québec - by Karine Prémont and Marie-Ève Carignan - Éditions La Presse)
Why were the media and the Quebec public so interested in the American Donald Trump? It was not so much American politics that interested them but the character of Trump.
I also asked myself the question and in the end I concluded that I am not really interested or concerned by the political life of the United States but that it is the character of Donald Trump that fuels all my passion.
I have always enjoyed the company of warrior type people, from Brian Mulroney to Pierre Péladeau to Paul Desmarais Sr. I myself am a passionate guy who doesn't back down from a battle...
Donald Trump represents the energetic spirit of the warrior with an image that stands out. For this reason, he has become a kind of world star that one loves and admires if one is a challenger of the self-righteous and the elite; but one hates and despises if one is for the established order and the conventional system of society.
Personally, I deeply miss my idol Donald, but I've taken a rest on American politics. We'll see if I come back to it in 2024...

MICHEL NADEAU (1947-2021)

MICHEL NADEAU (1947-2021) -
By Bernard Bujold -
I am saddened by the death of Michel Nadeau because we were both from the same era and we frequented the same sectors of Quebec society, journalism and Quebec Inc.
I did not know him closely because our styles were different on the human level. I am more of a warrior and Michel was of a softness, finally more strategic...
Michel Nadeau was a deep nationalist and he represented an era in our society, my era. His departure and the end of his story means, in a way, that the whole history of modern Quebec is turning a page. It is always sad to turn the pages of a book...
On a personal note, all my sympathies to his brother Jacques Nadeau, a fellow photographer.

COLIN POWELL (1937-2021)-

I had the pleasure to do a photo session with Colin Powell when he was in Montreal in August 2006 for a conference. He liked to make jokes with the journalists...

THE SYMBOLS OF LIFE -

THE SYMBOLS OF LIFE -
By Bernard Bujold -
I've always been a big fan of Batman and Superman since I was a kid.
What was my reaction to the new comic book of Superman's son?
In this new world with the internet, social media and the coronavirus, life has changed but a symbol was and will always be a personal vision for each individual. It is like God. The vision we have of it is unique to each individual's thinking and beliefs. There is no one God!
As far as Superman and Batman are concerned, they remain and will remain for me the symbol of the force of good against the force of evil. God against the devil...
And for me, the real Superman is Donald!
Happy fall 2021!
