THE "NEW CAR" BREAK DOWN...

THE "NEW CAR" BREAK DOWN...
By Bernard Bujold -
Nothing is more annoying than leaving the garage with your new car and after driving a few kilometers, it breaks down! This is what happened, this Monday morning, July 31, 2023, to the new REM train! The good thing is that the breakdown did not occur during the demonstration rides over the weekend...

THE CHALLENGE OF SUMMER 2023...

THE CHALLENGE OF SUMMER 2023...
By Bernard Bujold -
There are challenges where none of the options is advantageous...
Such is the case with Montreal's Olympic Stadium! This reminder of the 1976 Olympics, which cost $1.5 billion to build, needs to be repaired, and the bill is estimated at over $400 million. If we simply wanted to demolish it, it would cost a minimum of $800 million...
The solution: convince Elon Musk to transport the Stadium to Mars...
Happy end of summer 2023!

FAITHFUL ULYSSES AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE...

FAITHFUL ULYSSES AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE...
By Bernard Bujold -
My faithful Ulysses wanted to take advantage of my temporary absence on the beach to play with my computer and artificial intelligence.
From now on, he wants to be called "Ulysse l'Artiste..." 😉

JOURNALISTS ARE THE STARS -

JOURNALISTS ARE THE STARS -
By Bernard Bujold -
«Urban media journalists are increasingly becoming entertainment artists, rather than mirrors of society and its life, as regional media still are. Urban journalists are fast becoming stars, and the more adored they are, the wider their audience and the more essential they become to their respective media.
American journalists such as Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are a case in point. Big media stars become an integral part of the media, and Tucker Carlson’s case is proof of this. When his media company, FOX NEWS, terminated his contract in May 2023, the audience in his time slot immediately fell to a few hundred thousand, whereas with Carlson the audience reached over 3.2 million listeners every evening.
Americans, in particular, have developed the concept of celebrity, and with social media, stardom has become the goal..."» Excerpt: THE JOURNALIST by Bernard Bujold

LIVING WITH THE LIVING-

LIVING WITH THE LIVING-
By Bernard Bujold -
An essential tool for keeping an eye on life is Facebook...
Indeed, every week I learn of the death of a friend, and of my thousands of Facebook connections, a good hundred have died over the years, but their page often remains online. A sort of eternal life or virtual tombstone...
I'm always curious about the way people choose to die. Some people at the end of life want to leave lying on a hammock in their garden cottage, looking out over the river; others ask for medical assistance in dying; but many are victims of a stupid mechanical accident or of the human body when it's not a war or the work of a madman! Television dramas are more dramatic, and some have their characters die from a bull...
Personally, if I had the choice, I'd like to die in a church, sitting in a pew, calm and with no human presence other than that of silence, which some people identify with God. I'm not a churchgoer, but I like the concept of the church!
However, in the end, while waiting for D-day, I apply the advice of an acquaintance: "You have to live with the living and leave the dead with the dead, otherwise you become dead too!"
Happy summer 2023!

DONALD TRUMP AND JOURNALISTS -

DONALD TRUMP AND JOURNALISTS-
By Bernard Bujold -
«In 2023, if there's a negative side to journalism, it's that users, readers, or listeners, aren't looking for a challenge to their opinion, but for confirmation. In other words, a media outlet's subscribers choose it according to its political leanings. A Donald Trump fan won't listen to CNN, and a Trump opponent won't listen to FOX NEWS. Each group looks for a media outlet with the same political persuasion as it is! Journalists should cover events objectively and inform the public impartially, without seeking to take sides or promote a particular political agenda. However, the media have crossed the partisan line, and it will be impossible to eliminate this trend, especially with the inescapable concept that motivates the traditional media - entertainment to attract an audience.
Donald Trump has probably understood the situation best...»

HAPPY BASTILLE DAY TO FRANCE-

HAPPY BASTILLE DAY TO FRANCE -
By Bernard Bujold -
The first Bugeauld to arrive in America in 1690 was from France, from the region of Saint-Ciers-du-Taillon, a commune in southwestern France, located in Charente-Maritime (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region) near the port of Larochelle. He had left France, where a religious war was raging, and found himself in Port Royal, Acadia, in another war, just as violent and discriminatory as that of Protestants against Catholics, that of English soldiers against those of France. A kind of war like the one of 2020 between Russia and Ukraine.

STORM OVER THE CITY - JULY 2023

STORM OVER THE CITY -

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND JOURNALISTS -

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND JOURNALISTS -
By Bernard Bujold -
«Today, in 2023, with Internet technology and artificial intelligence, anyone with access to social media can be considered a journalist. It's the same phenomenon in photography; anyone with a smartphone is a photographer. The world of communications has never been so accessible and democratic. The Internet and artificial intelligence were originally designed to help humans, not replace them. But will the end result be the opposite, with the machine and the Internet dominating the human? These are existential questions that some scientists are already asking themselves, including several journalists...»

THE NEW TOY OF THE DAY...

THE NEW TOY…
By Bernard Bujold -
If there is a conclusion it is that everything is changing and life is a game... The new toy of the hour is THREADS. Here in Canada, governments and the media want to cede Facebook and Google the royalties on the publication of news produced by the media. Well, they all said they wanted to boycott Facebook severely, but everyone (including journalists) started to register for Mark Zuckerberg's new toy: THREADS, a clone of Twitter, above all a twin of Instagram…
Life is a game and we are always looking for the new toy...

THE JOURNALIST - FACEBOOK AND TWITTER

FACEBOOK AND TWITTER
The Journalist - by Bernard Bujold -
EXCERPT: «...We can conclude that social media have become the masters of the world, but there are no invincible superheroes, and their lifespan depends on the users. Who will be the survivors in the next decade? It may be that a new player will emerge and eliminate the current masters of the world in 2023! That's what Facebook did when it eliminated MySpace, and what Google did when it replaced the Netscape browser! History, they say, is a wheel that turns... » https://thejournalistbybernardbujold.blogspot.com/2023/06/the-journalist.html

THE JOURNALIST - PAPER BOOKS

THE JOURNALIST -
By Bernard Bujold -
Book Excerpt:
PAPER BOOKS IN 2023...
« I've written around ten books, only two of which have been published in paper form. I much prefer the Internet concept, because it's more precise in terms of content and more targeted in terms of distribution. It's also more economical in environmental terms. A paper book is basically a kind of work of art to be placed on a coffee table or in a library. An Internet book contains information and, in my opinion, truly serves its informative role. A paper book is like a photograph in an album, while an Internet book is like a photograph in a digital file. You have to keep up with the times... »

THE 4th OF JULY 2023...

Happy 4th of July 2023 and let's enjoy the moment...

DEATH...

DEATH...
By Bernard Bujold -
As we grow older, it's normal for the people around us to change and the people in our lives to leave. But I'm always concerned when I hear of the death of people I knew well. Denise Bombardier was one such person. My concern about the deaths of my loved ones stems from the fact that each of these deaths inevitably brings me closer to my own. And the big question: what's after death?
To be continued, but for today, let's enjoy the NOW moment!
