The memory of the summer of 2022 will be bright and beautiful for Pierre Poilièvre, but sad, painful and to be forgotten for Jean Charest...
Pierre Poilièvre was elected the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada on the evening of Saturday, September 10! He obtained 68,15% of the votes against 16.07% for Jean Charest...
The three other candidates were only able to get a total of 15% of the votes...
Out of 338 ridings in Canada, Poilièvre won 330...
Jean Charest who was counting on Quebec to defeat Poilièvre won only 6 ridings out of a possible 78!
Personally, I was convinced that Jean Charest would not make it to the finish line, and this since the moment I watched him on Tout le monde en Parle last April. Jean Charest was no longer the fighter I had known in 1984. Obviously, I did not say it publicly...
We must also remember that Jean Charest was once leader of the Conservative Party from 1993 to 1998 when he left to become leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec. Charest's attitude in 2022 resembled a husband who had divorced and who, 20 years later, wants to return...
Moreover, the Conservative Party was merged in 2003 with the Canadian Alliance (Western Canada) to become a new party with the ideology of Stephen Harper and, in 2022, the party has nothing of the Brian Mulroney era. A political party is like a store! You can keep the name, but if you sell to a new owner, the store's product offering will change according to the buyer's personal vision.
Ulysse and I tried to help our friend, candidate Jean, and we even asked Saint Brother André for his help, but he answered that he was not into politics...
With the victory of Pierre Poilièvre, we can conclude that I lost my 15$ dedicated to the purchase of a membership card, action that I had made by unique sympathy towards Jean Charest and the memory of our time together in Ottawa with Brian. We can also add to the losses, the price of the beautiful blue scarf that I had offered to Ulysse with the Conservative Party logo...
The campaign signs were sent to the garbage, but I keep the membership card (it is paid for one year) and Ulysse went to get back his scarf that we had thrown away with the posters, because we were impressed by Anaida Poilièvre's presentation. Poilièvre's victory speech was also very strong!
Pierre Poilièvre won "square and fair", and his secret weapon to discover will be his wife Anaida Poilièvre who grew up in Montreal (Hochelaga-Maisonneuve). A woman who has an exceptional talent to convince the crowd.
Ulysse and I will go back to our other passions, including Donald Trump, but who knows, Poilièvre seems refreshing and promising!
Tomorrow is another day, and for now, tonight, Ulysses and I will dream about Donald and his return in 2024...
But good luck to Pierre Poilièvre, his political fans, and of course to his wife Anaida, who I must admit impresses me with her speech!
