A few weeks before the coronavirus crisis, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec bought out Guy Laliberté's entire remaining stake in Cirque du Soleil at a good price by dealing with a firm in the Cayman Islands, a tax haven. Guy Laliberté's remaining 10% interest in Cirque du Soleil was held from 2015 to 2020 in a company registered in the Cayman Islands, a tiny Caribbean tax haven with a population of 64,000.
Cirque du Soleil is now closed and in very serious financial difficulty. There is even talk of possible bankruptcy. Pierre Karl Péladeau is interested in buying the company and relaunching it!
