The leader of the Parti Québécois faces a choice! Either he stands by his position on the referendum, or he abandons the plan. Abandoning the idea of a referendum would guarantee his election with a majority to lead the next Quebec government in the election on October 5. But if he is truly convinced of his referendum plan, he will refuse to abandon it, even if it means losing the election.
“Better to die than to betray one’s convictions…” In his political writings, the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau often explored the idea that a man who betrays his deepest convictions or his freedom is already “dead” in the moral sense! To be continued!
