Jean Chrétien is a politician of my time, a great politician in the sense of political art.
I knew Chrétien well in Ottawa in 1984. He was then in opposition to Brian Mulroney and I often ran into him on Parliament Hill.
Jean Chrétien has always been a fighter who was never afraid of his ideas, even physically pushing a demonstrator to the ground, as he did in Gatineau in 1996. He even made this gesture a sort of joke and his trademark...
One would think that Chrétien's statement on Tout le Monde en parle about the Indians would have destroyed the promotional campaign for his new book, but that's not knowing Jean Chrétien well...
