If the English debate (May 11, 2022) organized by the Conservative Party of Canada offers a conclusion, it is that the choice for the members is clear! They will elect a Pierre Poilievre with ideas very much to the political right; or they will elect a Jean Charest who emphasizes his long experience as a political leader, but whose ideas are to the left.
It is obvious that none of the other four candidates for the leadership will hold up the road and they will be at most "king makers" in the September 10 vote, if there is a second round.
We'll have to wait and see about the next debate on May 25, but the pace could be very difficult with a mostly English-speaking group that will have to debate in French. The results of the membership card sales on June 3rd may give a better picture of the campaign.
