A DETECTIVE STORY IN OLD MONTREAL-

A DETECTIVE STORY IN OLD MONTREAL-

It's like a real whodunit set in Old Montreal, as the story takes such incredible and mysterious turns. 

The novel begins with a tragic fire in which 7 people are killed; then immediately there are accusations of negligence against the owner; then the discovery of a criminal who is said to have started the fire with gasoline; then we learn that the municipal authorities refused to allow the owner to transform his building to make it safe, as it was classified as historic; finally, the firefighters wouldn't listen to the owner on the morning of the fire, forbidding him to approach the firefighters to inform them that people were trapped inside. 

Normally, the conclusion would reveal who started the fire and why. If this were a Louise Penny novel, we might have a riddle like the criminal who started the fire was a firefighter who wanted to make Mayor Valérie Plante look bad for her political decisions regarding municipal employees. 

The easiest and most logical solution would simply be a mafioso (street gang) who wanted to warn the building's owner, but in crime novels, the culprit and motive are always unbelievable and the opposite of logical...

THE SUCCESS OF META...

I've always had a lot of admiration for Mark Zuckerberg. He succeeded with his project, whereas mine (LeStudio1) failed, even though we started our project at the same time, in 2004-2005. I admire people who succeed in their projects. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg has more than succeeded in his project, he has changed the world, which is no mean feat! 
Facebook is an entertainment concept, like cinema, television, or radio. The idea is to enable subscribers to communicate with each other and be entertained. Governments and conventional media are crying foul that Meta is getting out of the news business. Facebook has never been a news medium as such, but a game. You can turn a game into a tool, and that's what the mainstream media have done by using Facebook to promote and disseminate their information. It's fair to say that they'll now have to find a new toy... 
In conclusion, as far as I'm concerned, I admire Mark for his entrepreneurial genius; Ulysse is very fond of Mark, who loves dogs; and I'm told that Mark found the last chapter of my book THE JOURNALIST amusing and that he agrees with my prediction!

A few friends with whom I was sharing lunch on the grass asked me how I explain Donald Trump's popularity when he's under attack from all sides with dozens of legal accusations. 
The answer is easy! When I was young, a popular singer used to say that it didn't matter whether she was spoken of well or badly, the important thing was that she was spoken of... 
Donald Trump is adored by half the planet and deeply hated by the other half. But at the end of the day, every media outlet on the planet is constantly talking about Donald, whether you're on the right or the left. 
My friends then asked me how long Donald's popularity would last. 
Donald is like Coca-Cola. He's in everyone's subconscious! To replace him, he'll have to disappear from the media and be replaced by another subject (another Coca-Cola) just as entertaining and attractive to the media. 
But let's face it, Donald is a big ratings magnet for Fox News as he is for CNN and others...

At the outset, we must recognize that nothing is eternal and that a commercial enterprise has a life like a tree. The company will cease operations one day and die. This is the fate that seems to be in store for TVA, owned by Quebecor. It wouldn't be the first TV network to disappear. Just think of Musique Plus, once a staple of the music industry. 
Quebecor isn't eternal either, but the company is constantly being reborn. From printing, the empire has moved on to cable TV, then the Internet, and now mobile telephony.

With September also comes the back-to-schedule time, especially for journalists! The back season for journalists is a lot like a film festival... 

Indeed, journalists are increasingly becoming entertainment artists rather than mirrors of society and its life. Urban journalists are fast becoming stars, and the more adored they are, the wider their audience and the more essential they become to their respective media. 

American journalists such as Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are a case in point. These two big media stars have become an integral part of their media, and Tucker Carlson is clear proof. When his media company, FOX NEWS, terminated his contract in May 2023, the audience in his time slot immediately fell to a few hundred thousand, whereas with Carlson the audience reached over 3.2 million listeners every evening. Americans have particularly developed the concept of celebrity.

The advantage of being a star is that people love you...
