FACEBOOK IS A GAME...

FACEBOOK IS A GAME...
The mainstream media, and politicians like those in the Trudeau government, are crying foul over the blocking of media article transfers on Facebook's network. We can qualify this scandal as fake news.
Personally, I knew about the birth of Facebook in 2003, a private network between Harvard students which was initially called FACEMATCH and which consisted in saying if a girl (student) was "Hot or Not"... We could then ask her out. Subsequently, in 2004, it became a public network, but still according to the concept of networking in private with its contacts. At the time, very few media were on the Internet and it took until after 2010 to see an acceptance of the technology.
It is wrong to claim that Facebook's 2023 media block in Canada is an attack on democracy! Facebook is a game and if the media believed in the seriousness of the case, they are totally wrong. If there is a conclusion, it is that the Internet networks are only games and the Canadian media will have to go play elsewhere...
There is still one month left in the summer of 2023. Happy summer 2023! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=bernard.bujold&set=a.10167881381070541

THE IMAGINATION OF JOURNALISM -

THE IMAGINATION OF JOURNALISM -
By Bernard Bujold -
"The history of mankind is better understood if we admit that what differentiates man from animals is the power of imagination. All of humanity is based on imagination and the acceptance of this imagination by humans. Religions, governments, companies, the economic and financial system, journalism, and so on. Journalism is a concept like all the other concepts in our society. It is a tool of society, provided we are willing to consider it as such, and its reality depends solely on our acceptance of its role.
Entertainment or the science of truth? The definition of journalism depends on the user's beliefs and imagination!

POLITICS ON PLANET EARTH-

POLITICS ON PLANET EARTH-
By Bernard Bujold -
Many people ask me if I'm worried about American politics and Donald Trump in particular? The truth is, I don't consider the situation in 2023 to be any worse than at any other time in history. Planet Earth has always been the scene of wars and conflicts, and a temporary peace always arrives in the end, before another war... In the United States, there have been two great civil wars: first, for the separation from England (1773-1783); then for the end of slavery (1861-1865).
In 2023, the United States is experiencing the start of its third civil war. But it's not the only one! Today it's Russia against Ukraine; and in the past, it was Hitler's Germany against Europe, the Acadians against England, and the Patriotes québécois against the English.
What concerns me in my daily personal life? My survival against death, and I let fate take its course for the rest... It is what it is!

HAPPY ACADIAN NATIONAL HOLIDAY - 2023- EDITION-

HAPPY ACADIAN NATIONAL HOLIDAY - 2023- EDITION-
By Bernard Bujold -
Best wishes to all Acadians, including myself, on the occasion of their national holiday. To mark the August 15, 2023 edition, I have chosen to republish a 60-page booklet I published on social media in 2017: "MY ACADIAN ANCESTORS". It's a look at my own Acadian ancestors from the 1755 deportation to the present day, illustrated with some 50 photos from my personal album. It's a way for me to pay tribute to Acadia, and to salute my two children and two granddaughters.
Happy Fête nationale!

BOOKS FROM QUEBEC

BOOKS FROM QUEBEC -
By Bernard Bujold -
Yesterday, Saturday, August 12, 2023, was Quebec Book Day. For me, the book in honor was that of my next-door neighbor and probably one of Quebec's greatest journalists and writers, Jean Paré. His latest book, Pièces d'identité, is definitely a masterpiece, and I often find myself rereading chapters of it. "... If a man is ever able to reach other planets, other stars in other galaxies, he will bring with him not only his dreams but his nightmares, his mistakes, his whole nature with its two faces, the good and the bad...." In Pièces d'identité, the former editor of L'actualité takes a passionate look at the stages of life. Taking the side of freedom, science, nature, the French language, secularism, and the future, he weighs up the disturbing return of religion, the malaise of culture, the limits of the image (and of digital technology) whose pixels more often than not hide the truth, and the hopes and miseries of school.
This essay is not a biography, but the product of a varied and profound experience of the media, and an insatiable appetite for books, great music, and life. If there's one book that honors Quebec, it's Jean Paré's. http://www.lemeac.com/catalogue/1654-pieces-d-identite.html

THE MEDIA IN 2023

THE MEDIA IN 2023-
By Bernard Bujold -
The announcement of the closure of Montreal's METRO media confirms the trend towards a media world made up of just a few very large companies. In the last chapter of my book THE JOURNALIST, I predict that in 30 years' time there will be only one major media outlet for the entire planet, a computer dubbed PLANET 1. It's an adventurous prediction, but in today's era, everything is possible......
The Internet has changed the world, and the good old days have become something else... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P34Zjh9nhNYRWOAZqaxYQ9P1E1-3mzi9/view

THE SEASON OF SEPARATIONS...

SUMMER 2023 - THE SEASON OF SEPARATIONS...
By Bernard Bujold -
The summer of 2023 is the season of separation! After the separation of Justin and Sophie, and the separation of my former love interest who quit her husband of 25 years, Facebook severed all ties with Canada's media, both local and international. The separation from Facebook was swift and, above all, total. No media pages will be accessible in Canada and the media page will be blank pages...
The absence of the media will pose a problem, especially for the media, who will lose a means of reaching their audience.
The question remains, will there be reconciliation? To be continued... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=bernard.bujold&set=a.10167881381070541

THE ART OF KNOWING IT ALL

THE ART OF KNOWING IT ALL...
By Bernard Bujold -
"Journalism was my second career choice. My original dream was to be a rich businessman! Fate had other plans, but it was probably part of my personality because I'm curious and like to ask questions! As an entrepreneur, asking too many questions gets in the way of action...
I once asked my friend Pierre Péladeau if I'd become rich one day, like him? He looked me in the eye and said he didn't think so. I didn't have a taste for risk, and I asked too many questions. An entrepreneur shouldn't wonder about the chances of success of his projects, because he'll be afraid and he'll never take a risk. But then Péladeau said I was the best journalist he'd ever known and worked with! He added: "You know everything, and if you don't, you'll find out! That's a very rare talent."
How do I explain this talent for knowing everything? The art of discovering everything, for a journalist or anyone else, is always in asking the right question, and above all, knowing how to ask that right question..."

A FILM ABOUT LIFE-

A FILM ABOUT LIFE-
By Bernard Bujold -
I'm not a romantic, but sometimes I succumb...
I watched during this first weekend of August, by chance, the French film FRANZT (2016). FRANTZ is a film about war, love, and destiny. The story takes place in post-war Europe in the 1920s, but could very well be set in 2023, in Ukraine in particular. It's about a young woman who decides to go to Paris in search of the man she met in Germany and loves, but she won't be able to live out her love, because the man isn't free.
The conclusion is that in life, you have to accept fate and never try to change it. It's better to keep living and looking into the future. It's one of the best films I've ever seen.
Even Ulysses loved it, but he's still overrun by his Barbie...

BARBIE IS A BILLIONAIRE...

ULYSSE IS ON A CLOUD...
By Bernard Bujold -
My faithful Ulysse is very happy as Barbie, his favorite movie character is a large success!
Indeed, Barbie is a billion-dollar hit. Through Sunday, the movie has grossed about $1.03 billion overall in domestic and international markets, in ticket sales. World War II drama “Oppenheimer,” meanwhile, has grossed only $552.9 million globally.
People hate war!
