THE VISITOR IS SENT BACK HOME

THE VISITOR IS SENT BACK HOME...
By Bernard Bujold -
What was supposed to be a pleasant diplomatic meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelinsky quickly turned into a bitter verbal spat in front of the world's media. Zelinsky wanted to aggressively impose his ideas on Trump, and we all know that Donald doesn't like to be pushed around... The dinner invitation was canceled, and Zelinsky was asked to leave.
It is said that White House employees inherited the meal prepared for Zelinsky...

ELON MUSK AND HIS PROJECTS

ELON MUSK AND HIS PROJECTS...
By Bernard Bujold -
Elon Musk is unpredictable, but it's fair to say that he's succeeded in many of his projects. Personally, I don't own a Tesla (I've had a few spin rides in a friend's one), and I don't know anything about rockets for space travel...
I am, however, a computer and internet technology enthusiast, and I'm impressed by the transformation of Twitter into X. Twitter started out as a simple comment board. Still, since Musk's acquisition, the site has become a leader in artificial intelligence, and GROK outperforms all other networks, whether Google's GEMINI, Microsoft's COPILOT, PERPLEXITY, Meta AI, ChatGTP, or Adobe Firefly. When Musk bought TWITTER for nearly US$44 billion, all observers said he would go bankrupt. Elon Musk seems to be winning his bet...
And, of course, there's his other bet on Donald Trump to transform the role of the American government. A challenge that Brian Mulroney failed to meet in 1984 when he proposed the exact same project for Canada. It should be noted that Brian didn't have an Elon Musk to back him up, nor troops comparable to those of Donald Trump and that the Canadian mentality is not comparable to the one of the more individualistic Americans.

CANADA' FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN...

CANADA'S FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN...
By Bernard Bujold -
Mark Carney offered the best logical solutions to Canada's problems in the French-language debate with the other three candidates, and, predictably, Carney will be unanimously chosen as the next Prime Minister on March 9.
But nothing is more uncertain than Mark Carney's ability on the campaign trail... We'll have to see how Canadians react to Mark Carney versus Pierre Poilièvre in a general election. Nothing is certain for Carney, who has no political experience, and although he projects an image of a serious, organized, and pragmatic leader, he is not a skilled crowd communicator. Particularly for Quebec, Carney's difficulty in speaking French perfectly could cause a serious problem and even benefit his opponents' victory in the election campaign!
Canada's future has never been so uncertain...
The second debate in English will be broadcast live this Tuesday, February 25, on CBC News Network at 8 p.m.
Stay tuned!

THE MOMENT OF TRUTH FOR MARK CARNEY

THE MOMENT OF TRUTH FOR MARK CARNEY -
By Bernard Bujold -
It's the moment of truth for Mark Carney, on Monday in French and Tuesday in English, during the two debates with the other candidates for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, Carney is the favorite, and many observers are even talking of a unanimous coronation on March 9. The four candidates for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada are Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland, Karina Gould, and Frank Baylis.
The debates will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on Ici RDI and CBC News Network.

WINTER WILL SOON BE GONE...

WINTER WILL SOON BE GONE...
By Bernard Bujold -
We're on the last weekend of February, and with March comes the end of winter. Winter is a wonderful season, although sometimes the snow can be insistent! But then, winter without snow wouldn't be winter...
Have a good weekend!

HOCKEY - CANADA / UNITED STATES

HOCKEY - CANADA / UNITED STATES -
By Bernard Bujold -
After an evenly-matched game, it was in the first overtime period that Canada finally triumphed over the USA in the 4 Nations Confrontation on Thursday evening at Boston's TD Garden, 3-2.
An overtime victory is always a little unfair on the loser. The winning goal wasn't spectacular. An ordinary throw-in after a face-off in U.S. territory. The U.S. had just finished a powerful attack in Canadian territory, and for some reason, the play moved into U.S. territory, and there was a face-off. The goal came after the face-off. An ordinary and lucky goal!
But a win is a win...

RENÉ LÉVESQUE AND HIS MEMORY...

RENÉ LÉVESQUE AND HIS MEMORY...
By Bernard Bujold -
I saw the René and Lévesque exhibition at the National Archives in Montreal.
I know the man well since we both hail from the Gaspé Peninsula, just a few kilometers from each other, and we rubbed shoulders at the Quebec National Assembly after his election in 1976, he as Premier and I as a journalist.
The exhibition reflects the man himself, unpretentious but very inspiring. It tells the story of the politician, as well as his professional life in journalism and his personal life, including his great love of card games... The exhibition also highlights Lévesque's interest in and passion for the United States and American culture. René Lévesque had ambitions to change the world, and if he didn't totally succeed, he have been a profound inspiration in the modern evolution of Quebec as we live in 2025.
The exhibition is free and runs until May 9.
The architectural and historical beauty of the National Archives building is truly exceptional and well worth a visit in itself!
