RENÉ LÉVESQUE AND HIS MEMORY...
By Bernard Bujold -
I saw the René and Lévesque exhibition at the National Archives in Montreal.
I know the man well since we both hail from the Gaspé Peninsula, just a few kilometers from each other, and we rubbed shoulders at the Quebec National Assembly after his election in 1976, he as Premier and I as a journalist.
The exhibition reflects the man himself, unpretentious but very inspiring. It tells the story of the politician, as well as his professional life in journalism and his personal life, including his great love of card games... The exhibition also highlights Lévesque's interest in and passion for the United States and American culture. René Lévesque had ambitions to change the world, and if he didn't totally succeed, he have been a profound inspiration in the modern evolution of Quebec as we live in 2025.
The exhibition is free and runs until May 9.
The architectural and historical beauty of the National Archives building is truly exceptional and well worth a visit in itself!
