THE ERA OF RENÉ ANGELIL AND CÉLINE DION...
By Bernard Bujold-
I've just finished reading the biography by Vito Luprano, the man who was Vice-President of Sony Canada from 1986 to 2019, and thus the direct associate of René Angélil and Céline Dion during their many musical successes.
In another life, I knew René Angélil when I was at Quebecor. I liked René, but Pierre Péladeau did not like him so much ... Let's just say that both characters were “ control freaks ”! I also had the opportunity to photograph the couple Angélil-Dion on several occasions, and René in particular. I loved taking pictures of him because he was very photogenic, knew how to look at the camera, and his face caught the light perfectly. He could have been a great film actor!
Luprano's book: “It's all coming back to me...” is available in English and French (with the same title). Overall, it's an excellent and faithful portrait of the evolution of the music industry in Quebec between 1975 and today, with a direct look at the successes of Céline and René at the height of vinyl's glory, and the downfall of the entire music industry with the invention of online distribution by Spotify and Apple Music. Luprano's biography (who turns 70 on April 6) is written in the style of a conversation, as if we were in his living room with him and he were telling us his life story.
