MODERN POLITICS IN 2025

MODERN POLITICS IN 2025 -
By Bernard Bujold -
Those who consider Donald Trump's era to be the worst in Canadian history have not read Denise Robillard's book, L'ORDRE DE JACQUES CARTIER ( Fides 2009). The Order of Jacques Cartier, also known as “La Patente,” was a French-Canadian secret society founded in 1926 in Vanier (Ottawa). Its goal was to promote the religious, social, and economic interests of French Canadians.
Since the founding of the colonies in North America, there have always been power struggles between different peoples. The English dominated, and it was their fear of immigration that led to French-speaking Canadians being identified as a minority among all immigrants. During the 1914-18 war (in 1917), the government even took away the right to vote from certain immigrants from countries that were enemies of Canada... Throughout Canada's history, immigration, trade with other countries, and nationalism have always been at the center of the political debates.
Ultimately, we can conclude that political life in 2025 is the calmest in Canadian history. Of course, the friend Donald may be a little unpredictable, but that's only because he loves to play the negotiation game...
