THE CONCEPT OF WAR...

War is like a neighborly quarrel! It starts with a simple difference of opinion and ends in total destruction. Take the example of Montrealer Daniel Langlois, who wanted to retire on a small island and build a small hotel in the Caribbean. A dispute with his neighbor over a right-of-way ended with the murder of Langlois and his wife. 
Once a war has started, it is impossible to stop it! 
I am currently reading the memoirs of Hitler's photographer. Hitler initially had good intentions, around 1924, and sought to revive Germany's economy. The war turned him into the worst dictator in modern human history. 
My friend Donald Trump wants to stop the wars in Palestine and Ukraine. An impossible task, which I believe will only end up like Germany in 1945. 
The end result of war is always destruction!

FUNERALS AND WEDDINGS... -

One of my close friends buried his daughter, who was barely 40 years old, on Saturday, August 23. My friend is very religious and wanted a ceremony worthy of his daughter and his god! I like my friend, and we have a great understanding when it comes to society events. I also believe in God, but I don't have the same perception of God as my friend... 

I comforted him during our many conversations about his daughter, but I did not attend the funeral! 

There are two social events that I never attend: 

1. Weddings (I consider the love between two people to be private and unrelated to a wedding ceremony); 

2. Funerals, because in my opinion, death is a very intimate event. When I die, I will not want a funeral... 

My friend won't hold my absence from the funeral against me because he has long been familiar with my philosophy on funerals and weddings. 

I have also often repeated my thoughts on death to him: “We must live with the living and leave the dead with the dead.”

With September approaching, many ​will also return ​to the inland after their summer vacations by the sea. The summer of 2025 was hot, sometimes too hot, but ultimately ​it was a pleasant summer. 
Personally, however, my favorite season is autumn. I love the freshness of fall, its soothing scents and colors, and the calm of the forest. Autumn will arrive this year on Monday, September 22nd, at 2:19 PM in the afternoon.

GOOD NEWS FOR PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP... 
The New York Appeals Court throws out $500 million civil fraud judgment against Donald Trump. An appeals court on Thursday, August 21, threw out a more than $500 million judgment against President Trump and his business empire. 

The decision from a five-judge panel provides a significant legal boost for Trump in the case, which was brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. “The court’s order, which directs that defendants pay nearly half a billion dollars to the State of New York, is an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution,” said the Appeal Court. 

Thursday’s ruling handed Mr. Trump a big financial victory and represents a major setback for the New York attorney general, Letitia James, who is one of the president’s foremost adversaries. The case had been a career-defining victory after she campaigned for the attorney general’s office, promising to hold Mr. Trump accountable.

 President Donald Trump met last Monday, August 18, in Washington to try to stop the war in Ukraine. The leaders of some of Europe’s most powerful nations also flew to Washington, D.C., on short notice to join President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. President Donald Trump plans now to get Putin and Zelensky talking. President Trump says an agreement between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to directly negotiate a deal ending Moscow’s invasion is close at hand. It would be no small feat to get Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a room together, but brokering a cease-fire—let alone a lasting peace that deters Russia from invading Ukraine again—will be a greater and a giant diplomatic challenge.

President Trump met with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia this Friday, August 16, 2025, in Alaska. The focus of their high-stakes summit was to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine, which Russia invaded in 2022. The two leaders held a joint news conference at the end of the meeting, and they concluded that the negotiation will continue in a second meeting. Alaska was an interesting place for the meeting as it has deep ties to Russia, which colonized the region in the 18th century. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States for $7.2 million, but Russian-speaking communities remain in the state.

The Acadian people of 1755 can be compared to the people of Ukraine in 2025... While for Ukrainians, Russia's territorial desire is the cause of their war, England's desire to possess the territory of Nova Scotia is the cause of the deportation of the Acadians! The Acadians did not want to take sides with either France or England and sought to maintain neutrality on their farms. But without an armed militia and a plan to defend their territory, they were completely defenseless against the British army's desires and deportation. 

As Taylor Swift sings, “When you try to be everyone's friend, you end up being no one's friend...”

THE PARTI QUÉBÉCOIS HAS THE WIND IN ITS SAILS...

The Parti Québécois won the by-election in Arthabaska on Monday, August 11, 2025, with its candidate Alex Boissonneault. The two big losers are obviously Éric Duhaime of the Conservative Party and Premier François Legault. 
It is becoming clear that the Parti Québécois will be at the forefront of the October 5, 2026, general election. The question is who will be its opponent to counter the separatist ambitions of the Parti Québécois. François Legault, who has been Premier of Quebec since October 18, 2018, but whose popularity is declining, or Pablo Rodriguez, the new Liberal leader, but strongly identified with Justin Trudeau, as Plamondon pointed out during his candidate's victory speech. It seems that for some reason, voters do not want Éric Duhaime as the province's leader. 
The next election will focus on the economy, and for this reason, US President Donald Trump will indirectly be at the center of the debates.

Last Saturday, August 9, 2025, was the birthday of Saint Brother Andre. 
Alfred Bessette (birth name) was born on August 9, 1845, and died on January 6, 1937 (he would be 180 years old today). He is credited with numerous miraculous healings and was recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2010. 
In 2025, there are no longer any real saints... There are squabbles, polarized political opinions, wars, and other scourges. Our era could really use a Brother André, especially with the heat we're experiencing this week...

The coming week will be hot... With these temperatures, it's better to be on the beach or indoors.
To keep cool in my hammock under the shade of the trees near the beach, I searched the internet on the Time magazine website and got my hands on an issue of TIME magazine with Giorgia Meloni on the cover. It's important to note that TIME magazine publishes various front pages for different countries. But after some research, I was able to get a copy with Giorgia on the cover... When I return to the city in the fall, I will frame it and place it in my library next to the cover of the 2024 Person of the Year, my friend Donald...
