Sunday, May 14 in the spring of 2023 will be remembered as the day the Premier of Quebec won an almost totalitarian vote of support. François Legault could be called a « benevolent dictator" or "soft tyrant"...
Indeed, he controls his political party like a dictator, but without any of the physical violence that dictators and tyrants usually apply. To get 98.61% in a vote of confidence, you have to have your organization well in hand and above all, totally under control...
His situation is not unique, however, and we find the same dynamic with Justin Trudeau and his party in Ottawa or in the United States with Joe Biden and the Democrats who all know that Biden is much too old to be an effective president, but no one dares to push him out of the party. The same could be said of Donald Trump who may be a little too "slobbery" for some, but he knows how to dominate and motivate his political party beyond the obstacles.
In all those cases, these politicians dominate their party because they are considered the only ones capable of winning an election.
Personally I am very happy in the case of Donald and I have started to dream again about his return to the Presidency for 2024. In the case of Legault, he is the least worst of the politicians running in Quebec but in the case of Justin, there is nothing I can do except not vote for his party in the elections!
