URBAN VIOLENCE

An existential question...
What do you do if you come face to face with two intruders who are stealing your neighbor's car in the parking lot of your condo?
Maybe the thieves have a gun?
Personally, I once came face to face with a rather large homeless man hiding behind my car in the garage...
Fortunately, it was daytime, and I was able to run to warn the security guard and together we subdued the individual and turned him over to the police.
My neighbor had his car stolen over the weekend. The thieves got in when another resident opened the garage door to park his car. He didn't pay attention to the two individuals who snuck in through the wide open door.
Ulysses would have surely bitten the two bandits but he was watching TV with me upstairs away from the garage...

THE WORLD AT WAR - 2022

The world is at war, and the warriors are very dangerous.
According to US ex-President Donald Trump, his secret to avoid war was to keep Russia and China away from each other on the economic level.
According to Trump, Vladimir Putin observed the way Joe Biden managed the war in Afghanistan and decided that the United States were not in any way a danger as a military force against his country. On top of that, China is now on the side of Russia on the economic level.
The war in Ukraine will also help China regarding Taiwan.
One could conclude that the world is in a very bad and unpredictable situation...

THE MEDIA IN 2022

We hear many media executives complain that people don't like them... It's like a singer complaining that his audience doesn't like his songs!
Media is easy to understand. You need a transmitter and an audience. It's like with the arts. You either like it or you don't. Each media is like an artist who has his audience. A media wants to please its audience and try to have as large an audience as possible. To believe that the media is the "total truth" is naive. A media is nothing more than entertainment.
News has become entertainment and as in entertainment, people choose according to their tastes. I, for example, do not like CNN, I never watch it. Conversely, a left-wing individual will like CNN and will never watch FOX.
In entertainment, the listener (viewer) chooses! And the media offers what its audience likes to hear and see...

If there is one remarkable manoeuvre against protesters in the Canadian Parliament, it is the one with horses.
In another life, I had friends who were top police officers and who were also excellent horsemen.
I had the opportunity to accompany them, as a guest, a few times on their training rides and if there is an incredible tool to fight against urban violence it is the horses of the cavalry.
The horse is an extraordinary animal!

OTTAWA AND THE GOOD OLD DAYS - LANGEVIN BLOCK

Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and in particular the Langevin Building, remains one of my most romantic memories and marks a beautiful time in my life.
It was in the fall of 1984 when I was in the entourage of Brian Mulroney who was elected Prime Minister of Canada in September 1984.
I had my assistant's office on the first floor of Langevin and I still remember, as if it were yesterday, the many walks I had to make to get across the hill to get to the Centre Block (the Canadian Parliament).
Obviously it was the beautiful time, because in February 2022 we can say that it is a difficult and robust time...

One can think that Justin Trudeau will go down in history as the one who copied his father by applying the ultimate law to run the country, the emergency measures law that replaced the war measures law of 1970. What will be the consequences?
We will have to see, but already the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, is on the political front, opposing Justin Trudeau's decision.

SPRING 2022 IN FEBRUARY

As of February 10, the first hints of spring 2022 will have begun to be felt in the city as the snow prepares to leave quietly.
Quebecers are looking forward to two specific dates: first, Monday, March 14 for the total unsealing announced by the provincial government; and second, March 20 at 10:33 a.m. for the official arrival of spring everywhere in America.
