The case of Nathalie Bondil and her dismissal by the Board of Trustees of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts on July 13, 2020 reminds me of events such as the dismissal of Patrick Roy from the Canadiens on December 2, 1995; the sale of MySpace in July 2005; or even the Coronavirus crisis that first broke out in China in December 2019.
In all cases, the same conclusion applies. Nothing is eternal and everything is fragile and the beginning of the end always starts with a small event that will cause total destruction.
Never since the departure of Patrick Roy, the Canadiens field hockey team has won the Stanley Cup; the empire that was MySpace quickly became obsolete after it was sold in July 2005 to the Murdoch group for $580 million and had to be disposed of in June 2011 for less than $35 million; the Coronavirus may have started with an accident in a Chinese laboratory in December 2019, but the entire planet and its entire civilization is now completely destroyed because of this virus; and the departure of Nathalie Bondil put an end to the success of a Montreal institution whose reputation was recognized around the world. Now, the Montreal Museum represents failure and its case will be watched and discussed by all other museums in the world for many years to come!
Conclusion: Yesterday's success does not guarantee tomorrow's success...
