Spring 2011 and Stephen Harper's Federal Election

The Conservative government of Stephen Harper fell on Friday afternoon and the Canadian Prime Minister went to the Governor General last Saturday morning, March 26. Elections will be held on Monday, May 2.
According to polls, Stephen Harper's Conservatives lead 43% against 24% for Liberal of Michael Ignatieff.
Here is the distribution of deputies according to the last Canadian 2008 election.
Conservatives 143
Liberals: 77
Block: 49
NDP: 37
Independents: 2
Vacant: 3
Total 308
Earnings of 12 seats by the Conservatives and is the majority (155).

Modern Photojournalism and the Internet...

The photo published in LeStudio1.com's newsletter to mark the arrival of Spring 2011 has been noticed and the object of small talk because of his element of manipulation by photoshop and the Internet... Each element in the picture is true, but the assembly has created a history and a message that can be suggestive and become fiction.
The comment that caught our attention is the one of a former photographer for Paris Match and one of the Facebook friends of Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1.com), Andre Gordeaux, who criticized the use of the Internet by magazines in general including Paris Match at the expense of heyday when the photographs were printed on film and then on paper.
He is right in one sense because the photo published, among other medias, on the cover of Paris Match was paid only $ 300 by the Agence France Presse to a Japanese newspaper and then distributed to thousands of media around the world, including Match. (See article France 24)
How a photographer can earn a living if you do not pay a fair price for his work?
The image of LeStudio1.com's newsletter has the cover Polka on the right side of the picture in front of the newsstand and by doing that LeStudio1.com wanted to make a nod to this new reality of photojournalism.
Indeed, the founder and owner of the magazine Polka is Alain Genestar, the former editor chief of Paris Match, who was abruptly "expelled" from the magazine following the publishing of a photo of the ex-wife to Nicolas Sarkozi with his lover in New York. If the photo had been purchased from an agency, Alain Genestar would perhaps not have the problems that he has known ...
The conclusion to the debate is that yes the photojournalism has changed and today the final image is a virtual assembly where each element represents a real reality but assembled by publishers behind a computer screen and then distributed on the internet to every wind, for free. Is it better journalism? It's faster and it's universal but the life of the stories is proportionally reduced.
As the Japanese woman in the photo shows resilience out of the ordinary, journalists and photographers must necessarily adapt and rediscover life as no coming back will never be possible.
Indeed, talk to victims of Japan; to the rebels in Libya or the revolutionaries of Egypt. Their story has become universal but is already beginning to be forgotten. It is both resilience but also "forget easy" due to the abundance of the Internet.
It remains, however, as said Bernard Bujold, that we are deeply missing Alain Genestar and his editorials in Paris Match, but hey, we also say: "Those were the days ... "

The Japanese Woman...

A simple photo sold for $ 300 at France Presse became a universal symbol, the symbol of the courage of the Japanese people.
Hundreds of media outlets worldwide have published it on front page of their magazine or newspaper, a photo of a young Japanese woman to illustrate the earthquake occurred in Japan Friday, March 11, just days before Spring 2011 ...
The photo was taken the day after the earthquake, Saturday, March 12.

Mélanie Guay sings the arrival of spring 2011

The new album by singer Melanie Guay "PALAIS D'HELIUM" is without a doubt the music album to listen to celebrate the arrival of Spring 2011 ...
Mélanie Guay is an artist who writes her own lyrics and composes her music. She is approaching the style of Coeur de Pirate at the word level but we can also see a link with an artist like Lady Gaga at music level. The style is unique, however, and the album is worth discovering.
For Bernard Bujold (LeStudio1), the discovery was not really one because he knew Mélanie Guay since several years ago:
"I noticed Melanie Guay during an event with Diane Juster. I thought it was Diana Krall as she look so like her. I kept in touch with Melanie on Facebook and then I received regular invitations to her local shows but I am not really a music fan and I greatly limits my choices in listening. Unless it's Cecilia Bartoli or Leonard Cohen, I do not go out! (joke)
However, I listened the album of Melanie and it is excellent and to be discover. I regret not having accepted invitations to her shows before but ... I will accept for sure the ones in the future! "

The New York Times announces his Internet pay formula...

The New York Times announced its new paid subscription system for the Internet users. Their proposal is similar in all respects to the one of the Financial Times of London as they will still offer 20 free articles to all visitors.
The observers are not convinced that the approach will work because nothing is forcing viewers to pay in contrast to the offer of the Wall Street Journal, which is fully paid and is forcing the visitors to subscribe.
Finally it is the Quebec newspaper La Presse in Montreal who will be the boldest in the Internet. Indeed, Gesca wants to eliminate all paper editions by 2013 and to distribute exclusively online.
Asked about the newspapers on the Internet, Bernard Bujold, creator of the site LeStudio1.com and a former executive of Quebecor, said:
"Andre Berard ex-president of The National Bank once said to one of its vice-presidents who wanted to close a branch, but on few years quietly: " Do not kill someone by cutting off an arm and watch him die after his blood. If you want to kill someone, you do it at once.! "
Guy Crevier will kill the old Gesca's formula at once. In a sense, Quebecor should have acted like that with the Journal de Montreal. There would had been less unnecessary suffering during two years for employees who ultimately died ...
Regarding The New York Times, I find them too shy and I prefer the formula of Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal. "
A meeting with La Presse's employees is scheduled for Friday, March 18.

Josélito Michaud and his new book...

Josélito Michaud was first known as the manager of singer Isabelle Boulay and then became a successful TV host with "On prend toujours un train pour la vie" (Radio-Canada) and now he is a successful writer.
The creator of LeStudio1.com, Bernard Bujold, knows Josélito since the early 1990s.
"The first impression always influences what we think of someone. Josélito and I met during my first day as executive assistant to the press magnate Pierre Péladeau 1925-1997 (Quebecor).
The latter asked me to accompany him to a production meeting of the magazine LE LUNDI and upon arriving in the magazine's newsroom, he insulted Josélito who was then the editor. Peladeau claimed that the story ideas suggested by Michaud were completely stupid and he added that Josélito also was stupid...
Josélito left the magazine in the following weeks.
This first encounter always influenced my look on Josélito Michaud even when he had become a successful manager with Isabelle Boulay.
However with hindsight, we must admit, beyond any doubt, that Josélito Michaud had and still has an immense talent. Péladeau was wrong because he had before him as an employee, an excellent entertainment journalist, an artist manager of talent, a great TV and Radio host and a writer of best seller.
The new novel by Josélito Michaud tell the story of a child and I was not surprised to read about a child unloved, misunderstood and persecuted but who managed to deceive his opponents when the become adult.
Spread the word: Josélito Michaud is an exceptional person and his new novel is a moving story. It is a book to read and to make other people to read! A book that shows you should never judge a person on the impressions of someone else but that, instead, know his history and then judge if necessary. As Bill Clinton said in his memoirs: Everyone has a story and that's the real explanation for everyone's life. "

Quebecor Media Empire is in mourning...

Two close associates of Pierre Peladeau (1925-1997) founder of the Quebecor media empire are dead: Charles Albert Poissant (85 years) died Friday, March 11 and Jean Neveu (70) died the next day Saturday, March 12.
Bernard Bujold, creator of the site LeStudio1.com and ex-executive assistant of Pierre Péladeau, received several calls from journalists wanting to get his personal reactions following the death of these two characters and dozens of emails offering messages of sympathy.
Here is his reaction:
"I knew very well the two men, but unfortunately, for the record, we were not friends. Indeed, when Pierre Péladeau died in 1997, Dec. 24 officially, it is Jean Neveu, Raymond Lemay and Charles-Albert Poissant who took over the senior management of Quebecor.
On the morning of January 5, 1998, I was thanked for my services as assistant to the president and it's Jean Neveu himself who decided that Quebecor would no longer need me in the future even if I was the founder's immediate assistant and that I was somehow his memory since almost the last ten years of his life. I wanted to stay on board but Jean Neveu was the new boss and he did not want me at Quebecor ...
The memory I have of Charles-Albert Poissant is softer and it goes back to flood in Saguenay Lac St-Jean while Péladeau had decided to donate $ 1 million to help victims and had decided that the money would come mostly from Donohue. Charles Albert disagreed but Péladeau reminded him that it was "him" who owned Quebecor including Donohue and it would be so.
Charles-Albert Poissant never really forgiven me for supporting Péladeau in its decision of $ 1 million in Saguenay and he did not want to confront Jean Neveu in his personal decision to stop me to continue to work within the Quebecor media empire.
Anyway, years went by and let the dead rest in peace.
Charles-Albert Poissant was definitely one of the builders of Quebecor and a founding partner with Pierre Peladeau.
Regarding Jean Neveu, he was a professional with whom Péladeau partnered at the level of printing but he was not a builder of the the empire as was Charles-Albert Poissant. In addition, a significant portion of the career of Jean Neveu took place in other printers companies which Transcontinental especially where Neveu was a close partner to the founder Rémi Marcoux.
God bless their souls! Rest in Peace..."
