THE SECRET TO OLD AGE IN 2026

THE SECRET TO OLD AGE IN 2026-
The secret to living old lies not in lifestyle habits, but in genes...
The New York Times presents a scientific analysis that is very interesting on the subject. Yet even for people who have won the genetic lottery, the analysis adds, “It's easy to shorten your life if you excess to much...”.
The definition of old age is 100 years old, and up to the age of 70-80, it's lifestyle habits that influence, but after 90, it's genes that decide...

PAUL ST-PIERRE PLAMONDON AND THE ART OF MARKETING

PAUL ST-PIERRE PLAMONDON AND THE ART OF MARKETING -
By Bernard Bujold -
In marketing, there's one inescapable rule! You can't get every customer on the market, and you have to offer something different from what other merchants are doing. That's exactly what Paul St-Pierre Plamondon does with his referendum concept.
His referendum project is unique compared to the offerings of the other 4 parties, and places him in a prominent position in the marketplace. Obviously, Plamondon won't win over all voters, but with 5 parties vying for 125 seats, he doesn't need an absolute majority to win. You may be for or against the idea of a referendum and the separation of Quebec, but you have to admit that the PQ's offer is well-targeted marketing by the book.
To be continued between now and October 5!
Happy end of January... with snow and cold!

CANADA IN 2026

THE BEST FRIEND OF THE PARTI QUÉBECOIS IN 2026
By Bernard Bujold-
While the American president likes to declare that Canada would make a great 51st state of the USA, the debate could take a more serious turn if Quebec and Alberta decide to secede from Canada.
For a referendum to be called in Alberta, organizers must collect 177,732 valid signatures (10% of the electorate) by May 2.
In Quebec, René Lévesque, who was profoundly American at heart, gave a speech to the Economic Club of New York on January 25, 1977, in which he compared Quebec's accession to independence to the American Revolution, hoping for a very serious economic rapprochement with the Americans.
At the time, however, Pierre Trudeau persuaded President Jimmy Carter to distance himself from Lévesque and his activists, whom he compared to Cuban revolutionaries...
Lévesque then turned to France...
In 2026, the debate over a direct link with the United States could become serious, especially if Paul Saint-Pierre Plamondon is elected Premier of Quebec.
Should Quebec and Alberta decide to separate from Canada, the logical economic option would likely be an association with the Americans! Albertans' oil and Quebecers' electricity are their great wealth.
Obviously, making Quebec the 51st state is illusory, but the question that isn't is: Who will Donald Trump support in the October 5, 2026, election, which will be on the theme of Quebec's eventual separation? Carney or Plamondon?
My money's on Plamondon...
And if Alberta were to call a referendum in May, Trump would certainly get involved in the debate...
Happy end of January, in the Canadian snow!

THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD...
By Bernard Bujold -
According to Elon Musk, “it's better to be an optimist about life and be wrong, than to be a pessimist and be right.... ”
In an interview at the Davos Forum, Elon explains his vision of the world's future.
In his view, artificial intelligence will transform the planet and give mankind great freedom and equality of life.
Within a year or two, artificial intelligence will be a central part of life on Earth.

DONALD TRUMP AND THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD

DONALD TRUMP AND THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD…
 By Bernard Bujold -
President Donald J. Trump is dominating the debate in the Davos Forum, and his speech has a major theme: the United States has always been there in the past and has been paying for the world. It was the old world; now it is a different one, where every country should take care of itself and be economically solid. In a way, the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney's speech was an introduction to Trump one, and both are saying the same thing: that we are in a new world and we should forget about the old world, which does not, and will not, exist anymore. Donald Trump thinks that the economy should be each country's responsibility and that it is wrong to depend financially on a big country for its market, whether it is the United States or China.

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP - 1 YEAR-
Today, January 20, 2026, is the first anniversary of Donald Trump’s second inauguration. His second term officially began a year ago today, on January 20, 2025, when he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Various news outlets and political organizations are marking today with reflections on the first year of his second administration, including his executive orders on federal employment, trade tariffs, and immigration. There are three more years to come…

THE WINTER OF 2026

THE WINTER OF 2026-
 By Bernard Bujold -
January is well underway, and today, on January 20, we have passed through the first month of the winter of 2026, and so far, the weather has been in season.
Personally, I'm not a fan of winter sports, and the gym is a sort of refuge for me. I love frequenting the gym to the sound of Hildegard-type music, a bit like being in a cathedral or celestial space...
Happy winter 2026, spring arrives in two months, on March 20...

THE PASSION FOR READING IN 2026

THE PASSION FOR READING IN 2026-
  By Bernard Bujold -
I love it when I discover an exceptional author. In my life, I enjoyed many exceptional authors like Tom Wolfe, Dan Brown, Kathy Reichs, and others like them. Now, I discovered another one with the same level of talent: Belle Burden. I discovered her by reading the review of her book (memoirs), "Strangers," in The New York Times.
The book caught my attention because it is a story about divorce, and I am a divorced person myself. But the book is also a book about life, friendship, and how to overcome life in uncharted waters, and how to survive the pain and the emptiness after divorce or the death of a close friend. It also shows how we often do not really know the real personality of our neighbour or spouse. The action of the book is set at Martha’s Vineyard and in New York.
I recommend the book; it's well-written and very inspiring!
The author is a discovery for many, and she intends to write other future books, probably in the form of novels. In a way, Burden makes me think of Louise Penny, who became a best-selling writer late in her life. Belle Burden wanted to be a writer in college, but her teacher made fun of her writing, saying she had no talent as a writer. Now in her 50s, she has become a best-selling author.
Conclusion: "Never give up on your dream..." To be continued…

A NEW APPLE STORE IN MONTREAL

A NEW APPLE STORE IN MONTREAL-
By Bernard Bujold -
I love visiting Apple stores, and I'm a big fan of their products. So I attended the opening of the new store on Sainte-Catherine Street in Montreal, next door to my other favorite store, Holt Renfrew Ogilvy.
Unfortunately, I'm disappointed...
I loved the old store with its legendary glass staircase (a staircase concept said to have been designed by Steve Jobs himself). The new store is a copy of the mall surfaces like in Dix30, Laval, or Pointe-Claire. The light in the new rue Sainte-Catherine store is magnificent, but I liked the two-storey, staircase concept of the old one better.
Fortunately, my disappointment is not so serious, as I order my products online... https://www.apple.com/ca/fr/retail/saintecatherine/
