MICHEL CÔTÉ (1950-2023)-

I met and chatted with Michel Côté once in real life, at one of the launches of the series Omerta, la loi du silence, in 1996. My impression was that he loved the world, wasn't a snob, and knew his business inside out! 

In March 2022, he sold his house in Outremont and moved next door to my neighborhood. I didn't run into him very often, as his illness was diagnosed almost at the same time and he had become discreet. I'd see him a few times on walks, wearing his cap... 

Life is unfair, and on Monday May 29 in the spring of 2023, we lost a great Quebecer! 

But what I wrote recently about the tragedy at the Monastère du Bon-Pasteur also applies to Michel Côté: "The tragedy at the Monastère du Bon-Pasteur is a great bereavement, but it brings us back to the inescapable reality of life. Nothing is immortal except the memory, and even then, with time, we forget even the memories. In conclusion, we must make the most of the present moment... DREAM OR REALITY...

DREAM OR REALITY...

Where does dream begin and reality start? An existential question I often ask myself... 
I dreamt last night in my sleep that I was at a party with a group of friends at the cottage and that, by surprise, one of my former one of my former love "flames" was there. She was happy to see me again and gave me a warm kiss. In real life, this woman is an actress I knew in another life many years ago, who lives in Europe. 
In the dream, we were like two teenagers shyly asking each other: is this the right time to live out the love story that hadn't come true before? 
Then I woke up in reality, an old man in his garden... 
But the question remains in my head: where is happiness? In the dream or in reality? Every moment we live in reality disappears with the passage of time, while every dream we have in our sleep flies away with our awakening. 
If there's a conclusion to be drawn, it's that in the end, both reality and dreams are mere illusions! 
June arrives this Thursday.

Spring is supposed to represent the rebirth of life, but in the end we never know when or how death will come to visit us... 
The newspaper Le Devoir publishes a very interesting reflection and analysis on the subject! The question raised is how to die? Whether we are rich and famous or poor and ordinary, we can decide on our daily life, but nobody decides on his death! 
That's why we have to take advantage of the present moment, when we are alive...

THE QUEBEC PATRIOTS' DAY IN 2023...

THE PATRIOTS' DAY IN 2023...

The Quebec Patriots' Day, on this Monday, May 22, 2023, marks the 1837-1838 rebellion, a major event in the history of Quebec. 
A link can be made between the Patriots' rebellion and the deportation of the Acadians in 1755. In both cases, England wanted to occupy the territory... 
The history of these two events is linked to another contemporary event, the current war in 2023 between Russia and Ukraine, whose objective is also the occupation of territories. We can conclude that even if times have changed, the political ambitions for the conquest of territory remain the same... 
An excellent book to read on the history of patriots is the novel by Jules Verne: "A FAMILY WITHOUT A NAME". We can see in this historical novel that if Quebec had obtained military aid from the Americans, in their fight against the English soldiers, the Patriots would have won the rebellion that they lost because of the lack of means and we would probably be an American state today! 
Note that the failure of the Patriots would lead to the burning of the Canadian Parliament in Old Montreal ten years later, on April 25, 1847. It was English citizens who had set the fire to contest the bill to financially compensate French-speaking citizens who were victims of the 1837-38 rebellion.

The union accuses management of unfairness in employee compensation and of not being transparent in its management. Is this the beginning of the end for the media and how will donors react to this conflict?
