The debate that was supposed to propel Jean Charest in front of Pierre Poilièvre will have slowed him down instead!
Personally, as someone who has made a career in journalism and public relations, if I had been in charge of the event, I would have held the meeting in a prestigious location such as the Château Laurier, in order to highlight the importance of the meeting and its participants. Not hold the debate in a small room in an industrial park...
The camera images were like those of a small community TV in the region; the discussions looked like a conference of professors gathered in a congress; and there was no audience.
In contrast, Pierre Poilièvre was holding a rally with hundreds of his activists and lots of posters all around.
We can conclude that the big winner of the evening was Poilièvre who had the genius to not participate in the debate.
One good point for Charest: he thinks positive. He answered the journalists' criticisms by repeating: "I will win the leadership race. That's my deepest conviction!"
