President Donald Trump has said he wants to open the economy as quickly as possible and is considering relaxing social distancing guidelines to get the economy moving again.
"We can't let the cure be worse than the problem itself," Trump tweeted. "
There has been tension within the federal government's coronavirus team for months between health experts looking for scientific ways to stop the crisis and economic advisers looking to protect the economy as much as possible.
Larry Kudlow, the White House's top economic adviser, expressed concern about the economic effects of ordering Americans to stay inside. "At some point, you have to ask yourself whether the closure is doing more harm than good," he said.
