EXHIBITION WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017 IN MONTREAL

EXHIBITION WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017 -
By Bernard Bujold -
The 2017 edition of WORLD PRESS PHOTO, the 12th edition, presented in Montréal is very well done and one can appreciate several very exceptional photographs.
I personally loved two photographers: Burhan Özbilici, author of the famous photo of the shooter in Turkey who had murdered the Russian ambassador at the inauguration of an art exhibition; and Alberta Canadian photographer Amber Bracken, whose photographs of his excellent story on the mobilization of a Sioux reserve in US North Dakota.
Photographer Özbilici explained at the inauguration how he felt during the shooting and despite a deep fear, he did not panic and he had the reflex to do his work of press photographer and capture tragic images of the event.
A lighter moment of the inauguration at the Montreal exhibition was to see the two winners photographers, Burhan Özbilici and Amber Bracken, discussing the techniques of photography...
The WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017 exhibition will be held at the Marché Bonsecours from August 30 to 1 October.
An exhibition that must be seen!

YOUNG SYRIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS AT THE WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017

YOUNG SYRIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS AT THE WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017 -
By Bernard Bujold-
It is a very small exhibition on the sidelines of the WORLD PRESS PHOTO 2017 exhibition, but in a sense, this presentation reflects what photography is really about.
Personally I did not stop at this secondary exhibition on my first visit to World Press Photo 2017 and I had to go back to see it.
The photos were made by twelve Syrian teenagers who arrived recently in Quebec.
Several conclusions can be drawn from these photographs.
Mine is that photography is universal and that the final image does not change according to the nationality of the photographer but rather only according to the landscape that is proposed to him. If the pictures of the young Syrians are presented with little means and in a small back room, the visual quality of these images has nothing to envy to the photographs by the professionals who are exhibited in the main hall and who have won prizes excellence.
Conclusion: "PHOTOGRAPHY is a unifying force for the nations of the world!"

MAYOR OF MONTREAL IN 2017

PAULINE MAROIS IS THE WOMAN OF THE SITUATION...
By Bernard Bujold -
The Journal La Presse published on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 an interview with Pauline Marois concerning her feelings about her political past. The only question that was not asked him: Are you going to come back one day in politics?
What if Pauline Marois presented herself at the mayor's office in Montreal? The idea is not without foundation because with his experience of political management, Pauline Marois would do an excellent job. And since she is a woman, her victory would break the glass ceiling of Montreal, a ceiling that Mélanie Joly had almost succeeded in breaking.
The message is launched to get Madame Marois out of retirement:
"IN 2017, PAULINE MAROIS AT THE MONTREAL CITY HALL!
The deadline for nominations is October 6 for a vote on November 5.
To be continued...

THE WARRIOR MIKE DUFFY IS BACK

THE WARRIOR MIKE DUFFY IS BACK -
By Bernard Bujold -
Senator and former journalist Mike Duffy has returned to the battlefield and this time he said that it is to defend the right of Canadians to the recognition of the right to innocence before the law. According to him, and he is right on this point, the federal government and the Senate have in no way respected the concept of innocence by accusing and ejecting him from the Senate. Justice has given him reason since, and he has been entirely found not guilty without any ambiguity.
Is Mike Duffy right to sue the federal government for $ 8 million, a prosecution that many lawyers say he has an excellent chance of winning? It is a broad question, but one can admit that in our society of law, one must respect the law and this applies in both directions with sometimes rather illogical and unjust but legal results...
One example is the case of Omar Khadr and his $ 10.5 million in compensation from Ottawa, and Haitian migrants crossing a fence rather than the official border post where they would be turned down.
Sometimes unjust but legally enforced abuses are illegally carried out by others, as was the case with former Lieutenant Governor Lise Thibault, and the result is prison rather than financial gains. Thibault did not profit more than others from the money of the government but she did it without respecting the law. It is all the difference because: "the law is the law" as a well-known actor would say...
When I met Mike as a journalist in Ottawa in 1984, he loved running around in a white Roll Royce. If he wins his pursuit, he will perhaps return to his old habit because he will have ample financial means...

CINEMA IN 2017

CINEMA IN 2017 -
By Bernard Bujold-
If there was a time when cinema was an adventure involving tons of heavy reels of films, it is not any more in 2017.
In fact, the images of the projection in a room can now come directly from the internet or on a simple DVD in a small white envelope...
The projector and the feeling in the room remain still an attraction for the moment but not necessarily for a long time considering the vast possibilities offered by virtual glasses in 3d as the VR Box.
For this reason, the shift in 2017 by Serge Losique and his World Film Festival towards the virtual is perhaps imposed by the lack of means but it nevertheless remains that the turn is totally with the modern technology and towards the trend of the future.

2017 WORLD FILM FESTIVAL OF MONTREAL - OFFICIAL OPENING

2017 WORLD FILM FESTIVAL OF MONTREAL-
OFFICIAL OPENING
By Bernard Bujold -
The official opening of the 2017 World Film Festival has been sober but a success!
The founding president Serge Losique presented to the spectators his vision of the cinema and of his Festival and if there is one thing to watch is the use of the Internet to reach the public. The concept of the remote jury by the use of VIMEO is particularly innovative.
It will be necessary to see the continuation but the Internet is definitely at the center of the plans for the future of the FFM.
If Quebecor and Pierre-Karl Péladeau gave Serge Losique a lucky hand in becoming the owner-tenant of the Imperial Cinema, it is necessary to attribute the survival of the World Film Festival to its founder Serge Losique. He has succeeded in bringing together an efficient and determined team of volunteers, and even if the programming does not have the scale of the previous years, it remains interesting and above all of high quality.
The opening film: "Anna Karenina: Vronski's Story" is definitely an artistic work. In this film we find magnificent images as much of Imperial Russia as magnificent horse racing scenes and exceptional music especially during the sequence of the Ball.
In conclusion: The Montreal World Film Festival is still alive and Serge Losique still has plenty of development projects for the future.

THE WHITE GIANT OF MONTREAL - 2017

THE WHITE GIANT OF MONTREAL -
By Bernard Bujold -
The White Giant of Montreal will not be bored...
Indeed it will be able to benefit from a magnificent park installed between the two roads of the highway entering Montréal.
In this park there will be a magnificent tower so that the friends of the Géant (citizens and visitors) can climb and observe the traffic. For the true fans of traffic, one can even count the number of cars that pass...
There will also be a playground for the children to occupy them while the adults watch the traffic.
Finally, to ensure constant use of the observatory and the playground, close to the park, there will be magnificent condos, in order to have a large neighborhood and especially a numerous one.
Long live the White Giant and his urban park!
