DONALD TRUMP AND THE QUEBECERS...

DONALD TRUMP AND THE QUEBECERS...
By Bernard Bujold
The book REVOLUTION TRUMP by researcher and media columnist Rafael Jacob is the first and only Quebec book about Donald Trump. Most Quebec journalists hate Donald Trump and do not accept the character as President of the United States. Their texts in newspapers or on television are always negative and insulting towards Trump .
Commentator Rafael Jacob is an exception and his book offers an excellent portrait of Donald Trump that is totally objective, neither flattering nor negative. The book fundamentally describes what the Trump era is all about and the character, a branding and marketing expert who has taken American politics into new territory. Author Jacob compares Trump to the character in the film HAPPY GILMORE (1996) and he is right. Personally I have always believed that nothing prevents someone from going out of the circle except the fear of disturbing. Donald Trump looks like the golf player Happy Gilmore and both are not afraid to be different from the norm.
As the book's preface suggests, we may have to think about adding another president to the four others on Mount Rushmore .

DONALD TRUMP IN 2020 ACCORDING TO JOHN PARISELLA

DONALD TRUMP IN 2020 ACCORDING TO JOHN PARISELLA
By Bernard Bujold -
The political observer, commentator and former Delegate General of Quebec in New York and Washington, John Parisella wrote an excellent column in La Presse on Tuesday, January 28, in which he admits that Donald Trump has the advantage for the presidential election of November 3, 2020. We know that Parisella is an ardent defender of Barack Obama and that he has never been in agreement with Donald Trump's ideas and style. But one of Parisella's qualities is his deep objectivity. His column in La Presse proves it once again.

URBAN PANIC - CORONAVIRUS - PART 1

CORONAVIRUS URBAN PANIC - JANUARY 2020 -
By Bernard Bujold -
Here in Montreal it's total "urban" panic! Indeed, people are afraid of the CORONAVIRUS and have rushed to the pharmacies to buy masks.
I had to go to 6 pharmacies downtown on Saturday (January 25th), before I found one that still had masks and it was selling them individually, maximum 2 per person. A Pharmaprix clerk on Sainte-Catherine Street told me that on Friday (January 24th) he had sold more than 600 masks (his entire inventory) and the neighboring Jean Coutu more than 250 (also his entire inventory).
But when I got home, my neighbor, a young woman studying health care science, told me that masks are a myth and only serve to prevent the sick person from spreading the disease but do not protect the healthy person from being infected. The only solution, according to my neighbor the student, is to wash her hands. She even said that one of her professors told her that if he was in China he would not wear a mask and that he would be safe only by washing his hands.
To find out for sure and get a second opinion, I contacted a friend, a real nurse who is a "registered nurse".
According to my friend, the full registered nurse: "Wearing a protective mask is indeed recommended at the beginning of the pandemic (which is absolutely not the case in Canada at the moment). No study proves the "absence" of effectiveness of this mask protection measure. Currently the mode of transmission is not yet well known and therefore hand-washing and respiratory etiquette are the recommended preventive measures. The so-called "protective mask" provides some respiratory protection for the individuals wearing it. However, another type of mask, type N95 (mask worn when tuberculosis or Ebola is suspected) will protect 95% of the individual wearing it (currently far too intense as a precaution). I think it is however prudent to have masks at home in reserve, as a matter of prevention. In times of pandemic (we are absolutely not there yet), these masks will be difficult to find..."
In the media (Fox News) both versions, that of the student and the registered nurse, are confirmed...
Finally, as for me, to make my worrying worse, imagine that while I was looking for masks, I went by Place Desjardins and there was a big gathering there to celebrate Chinese New Year! Hundreds of Chinese...

LINO SAPUTO AND HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY - A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

LINO SAPUTO AND HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY - A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
By Bernard Bujold -
Le Devoir publishes this Friday (January 24, 2020) an excellent story on the autobiography of entrepreneur Lino Saputo.
We learn that La Presse wanted to have the book published but that Saputo preferred to publish the book on its own rather than having to choose between La Presse and Quebecor...
I've already said that I liked this book very much and I keep it in my library as a testimony of perseverance and business vision.
And in conclusion, we can remember former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who liked to tell:
"It doesn't matter what the critics say about your film in the media, the important thing is the box office with the public..."

DONALD TRUMP AND THE IMPEACHMENT CIRCUS...

DONALD TRUMP IMPEACHMENT CIRCUS -
By Bernard Bujold-
The first day of the Democrat’s impeachment accusations on trial in the US Senate started at 1 pm. on Tuesday January 21, 2020, and it was like a circus.
The marathon, 12-hour first day debate in the impeachment trial against President Donald Trump erupted into a shouting match well after midnight Wednesday morning, as Trump's legal team unloaded on Democratic impeachment manager Rep. Jerry Nadler in an exchange that prompted a bleary-eyed Chief Justice John Roberts to sternly admonish both sides for misconduct in the chamber and asked them to be more respectful of the Senate. Finally Senate Majority Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s rules were eventually adopted in a 53-47 party-line vote at 1:40 a.m. ET Wednesday and largely mirror those from the Bill Clinton impeachment trial in 1999. It will permit new witnesses and documents to be considered only later on in the proceedings, after opening arguments are made.
Now the show will continue on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, starting at 1 pm and run until next week.
For his part, President Donald Trump was in Davos and appeared undeterred by the proceedings, and fully committed to conducting business as usual.
To be continued...
