DOUG FORD'S STRATEGY

In politics, everything is strategic, and the objective is to take the chair of power.
For observers of political strategy, it's obvious that Doug Ford is aiming for the position of Prime Minister of Canada.
He's positioning himself against current Prime Minister Mark Carney, and he knows that Pierre Poilièvre will be easy to topple at the Conservative Party convention in Calgary, Alberta, January 29-31, 2026.
Doug Ford is known as the bull. He's aggressive, strategic, and doesn't hesitate to be sneaky with his opponents. He proved this against Carolyne Mulroney when he appeared out of nowhere to seize the leadership of the Ontario Conservative Party in 2018.
He played the outsider card, cleaning up the party and standing up for taxpayers.
Ultimately, in 2025, Donald Trump is merely a tool in Doug Ford's strategy to conquer the Canadian Parliament.

MONTREAL AND ITS FUTURE -

This Sunday, November 2, 2025, municipal elections will be held in 1,100 municipalities in Quebec. Approximately 8,000 municipal elected positions will be filled, but many will be uncontested due to a lack of opposition candidates.
As for Montreal, personally, I have never been a fan of outgoing mayor Valérie Plante. In my opinion, she was elected in 2017 because of her smile, not her political ideas, while outgoing mayor Denis Coderre always looked shocked and never smiled. The 2013 election between Mélanie Joly and Denis Coderre was a real election campaign. Both candidates had serious platforms and debates. In 2025, the Montreal campaign will have been anything but captivating, and none of the mayoral candidates will have been remarkable...
We'll have to wait and see the results, but according to some observers, voter turnout in Montreal may not exceed 30%. In 2021, it was 38.3%. To be continued...

THE BEAUTY OF CLOTHING

I took advantage of the weekend to visit a friend from another life, who now works for the TOM FORD clothing company.
Knowing my passion for beautiful clothes from the days when we frequented the same circles, she recently invited me to try on the new suits for the 2025 season at the Holt Renfrew Ogilvy store on Ste-Catherine Street.
I thought, why not...
The TOM FORD suit fits me well, but when my friend told me the price, I was shocked.
$8,500 before tax...
I told her I would think about it!
My friend and I then discussed our heyday, and she told me not to worry about the coat. She understands that when you're retired, you don't really need a luxury suit, unless you're invited by a friend like Donald...
If I had the spirit of my 30s, it would be a dream, and I would have already offered my services as an advisor.
But an old man is more realistic, even though dreams can often come true at any age...

MY PASSIONS IN LIFE

I have four passions in life: politics, photography, technology (artificial intelligence), and the gym.
There was a time, when I was younger, when I had a fifth passion: romantic love...
However, as I grew older, I realized that romance is like water: it is elusive... You have to appreciate it, but never believe that you can possess it.
That being said, I recently met a very beautiful young woman in a café. And I know a thing or two about female beauty...
It's at times like these that I wish I were younger and still believed in romance...

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER

It was James Bond who said, “Diamonds are forever.”
After a group of four thieves brazenly broke into Paris’s Louvre Museum and stole in seven minutes a total of eight pieces of jewelry that form part of France’s crown jewels, the chase is on to find them before they filter into the black market.
The fear is that these historic artifacts could be simply dismantled and sold for parts.
Unlike Picasso paintings or Rolex watches, stolen gems can be broken out of their jewelry settings because such commodities retain a great value as precious metals and gems.
The clandestine global network for stolen art, including jewels and diamonds, trades billions of dollars’ worth of illicit pieces annually, according to the FBI, spanning diamond-cutting shops in Dubai and Delhi to jewelers in New York, Tel Aviv, and even Montréal.
