ORWELL AND THE FAKE NEWS By Bernard Bujold- I am reading a new book which is a resume of many of the writings by George Orwell about the truth in the medias and in politics. Orwell wrote about those subjects in the 1940-50 and already at the time no media was considered truthful... It was more difficult at the time for the newspapers to be untruthful but for the radio it was easy business. The most well known false story was the one by Orson Welles and the invasion by martians... The War of the Worlds was performed for his radio anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air. It reportedly caused widespread panic when listeners thought that an invasion by extraterrestrial beings was actually occurring. The book « Orwell on truth » is a real good guide to better understand when we could be the target of fake news in today times.
